The Choephelling Tibetan Refugee settlement camp in Miao is one of the oldest settlements for Tibetan refugees. It provides shelter to the refugees and also gives them employment opportunities. It is located at a distance of four kilometers from Miao township, under Changlang district. This camp is one of the 45 settlements for the Tibetan exiled Nationals in India, and one of the 75 settlements all over the world.
The refugees here are known for producing excellent quality woolen carpets that are even exported. These are exotically weaved to international standard and sold at Rs. 190 per square feet in the global market.
The camp boasts of having 26 skilled women weavers and six male counterparts in the carpet industry, which on an average earns around Rs. 20 lakh annually as informed by the settlement officer.
